We had quite a successful run in Los Angeles as Andre du Lorde's Grand Guignolers de Paris. We took a little different take theatricalizing our evening as if we were a travelling troupe from the original theatre in Paris circa 1930. Our ushers were in Pierrot like costume/make-up and we set the venue as a kind of speakeasy. We had a pre-show absinthe demo and served absinthe, champagne and had gypsy jazz music (sometimes live!). We played off the puppet theme of Grand Guignol where I was a come to life emcee puppet (after my counterpart small puppet gets strings cut). We did The Final Kiss and A Crime in a Madhouse very straight but our entre'acte farce was a finger puppet show with special effects (he cuts her head off which sprays blood). We sold out and we only did 3 weekends. But planning to do more in October! People really loved this stuff. We're Dell'Arte people and had studied with Michael Fields. Tyler Olsen came down to help with effects, etc. Oh, we ended with a dance number. Check out our reviews:http://www.laist.com/2007/06/05/grand_guignol.php#more and on our website at www.grandguignolers.com/review.html
Hope some of you can check us out next time!
